Sr M Mary Misericors of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, nee Therese Jacob Mendonca of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany, Mangalore, belonging to BangaloreProvince passed away on Sunday 15th 2018 at 4am at the age of 86, in the 69th year of her religious life, at Jyothi Nilaya Bengaluru.Herfuneral riteswill be held on 16.07.2018 at 9.00 am in Jyothi NilayaChapel,Bengaluru.
Sr Misericors hails from Nilekani, Sirsi, North Kanara in the Diocese of Karwar.She issecond among the seven children of lateMr JacobMendonca and Isabella Mascarenhas. It is remarkable that all six of the sisters were received into Bethany as children by our Founder. Sr Mitis and Sr Cormunda have gone to their eternal reward. She has only one brother who lives inKumta .
She was one of the first sisters sent to Regina Mundi, Rome, by our Founder, to do Theology along with Sr Esperie. Being aGod experienced person,she lived a life of deepTrust and Faith in God and shared this experience of God’s love with everyone, especially the slum dwellers, the poor and needy. She has served the Congregation in the capacity of a Superior of Madonna Convent,Kolasib, St Mary’s Convent Dahanu, Asst. Novice mistress at Rosa Mystica Novitiate, as Directressof Candidates & Pre-Novices, asHeadmistress of Christ King High School,Karkal, Principal at St Mary’s Convent, Dahanu, taught as a dedicated teacher in Kinnigoli, Kulshekar, Sirsi, and Thenhipalam. After her retirement from teaching in 1988, she opted for Ashram experience at Christ PremSevaAshram, Pune and Anjali Ashram, Mysore. Thereafter, she took the daring initiative of taking up socio- pastoral ministry at Bogadi, Mysore, in the surrounding area for about 18 years.Later she joined the community at JyothiNilaya, Bengaluru due to her ill health.She would spend most of the day before the Blessed Sacrament,counselling people and guiding students, visitingthe families, and praying with them. She was a lover of the Word of God, a good speaker, voracious reader, unique and rare person who trod the untrodden path especially in the service of the poor and the deprived after the example of our Founder, the Servant of God RFC Mascarenhas.
Funeral cortege leaves Jyothi Nilaya Chapel, Bangalore on16th July 2018 at 9 am, to Kammanahalli Parish Church, followed by Eucharistic celebration. May her soul rest in peace!
