Dec 22nd 2024 is a significant day in the history of the Mother of Mercy Convent, Gadenahally as it marked its Platinum Jubilee with great joy and reverence, commemorating 75 years of its steadfast commitment to education, spiritual growth, medical and pastoral service. This milestone is a testament to the legacy of the institution, which has been a beacon of hope and inspiration since its inception. Mother of Mercy Convent was established in on May 24th, 1950, with a vision to serve the sick, promote education, and cater to the underprivileged. Over the decades, it has grown from humble beginnings into a well-respected institution, shaping thousands of lives with its emphasis on moral values, academic excellence, and holistic development.
The celebration began with a Thanksgiving Mass, in St Ignatius Church, presided over by Bishop Most Rev T Anthony Swamy of Chikmagalur Diocese, who commended the institution for its remarkable journey of faith and service. The Eucharist was concelebrated by Rev Fr Moses, the Parish priest and14 priests of the Diocese.
The convent has been led by generations of dedicated sisters who have carried forward the Founder’s legacy of instilling compassion, knowledge, and faith. It was great joy to honour the sisters who worked assiduously sustaining the charism of the Founder. Their tireless efforts have not only transformed the lives of the students but also uplifted the local community.
The Platinum Jubilee celebration was a majestic event, spread over multiple days to honor the convent’s legacy. The event brought together alumni, current students, parents, clergy, and members of the community in a spirit of gratitude and festivity. In the evening the jubilant mood continued with cultural program, showcasing the talents of the students through dances, songs, and drama that depicted the rich history of the convent.
Prominent dignitaries, including Sr Shanthi Priya the Assistant Superior General of the Congregation of the sisters of Little Flower of Bethany, Sr Sahana BS, the Provincial Superior of Bangalore Province, former Superiors, heads of the Institutions, wardens, health personnel, Sisters of the local communities, priests of the locality attended the event and lauded the convent for its contribution to education and social upliftment.
The Platinum Jubilee of the Mother of Mercy Convent is a moment of pride for all associated with it. It stands as a reminder of the profound impact of faith-based education and the power of selfless service. As the convent embarks on its next chapter, it remains steadfast in its mission to be a light of hope, mercy, and excellence in the world.
