Sr Agnes, née Stella D’Souza, was born to late Mr Rosario D’Souza and Angeline Miranda at Hospet, in the Diocese of Mangalore on 18.09.1934, in a God fearing family. Out of the 5 children, she is the fourth in the family. Her younger brother is Fr Aloysius D’Souza OFM, Cap is at St Ann’s Friary, Bejai, Mangalore and late Sr Felcy D’Souza BS was her niece who expired on 05.09.2014.
She joined the Congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany on 2 July 1951. After her religious formation in Mangalore, she was assigned to Bangalore/Western Province and she rendered her services as a Superior of the communities and in the field of education as a teacher at Nazareth Convent, Bajpe, Santa Cruz Convent at Kulshekar, Marywell Convent, Kinnigoli, Rosa Mystica, Kinnikambla in Mangalore Diocese, Ave Maria, Sirsi, Assumption Convent, Baad, St Michael’s Convent, Dandeli in Karwar Diocese, St Joseph’s Convent, Sagar, Shimoga Diocese, Jyothi Nilaya, Bangalore, Fathima Convent, Dornahalli, Mysore Diocese, Holy Cross, Arsikere in Chikmagalur Diocese Bethany Convent, Belgaum, Kripalaya, Dharwad and Presentation Convent, Dharwad in Belgaum Diocese. She resided and served in Presentation Convent, Dharwad from 1961-71 and after her retirement she was a member of the community from 2003 to date. Her religious commitment, missionary zeal and especially her love for the poor was remarkable. Students remember her with much love and gratitude even now.
Rev Sr Rose Celine our Superior General, while on Canonical Visitation at Provincial House, Dharwad along with Sr Assumpta, the Provincial Superior visited Sr Agnes on 11.11.2019 and prayed for her. She showed signs of breathlessness due to congestion in the lungs. She was administered the last sacrament by the Parish Priest. When her condition grew critical due to breathlessness and age related illness, she was admitted to Lourdes Hospital, Dharwad on 12.11.2019 and was in ICU when she breathed her last on 16.11.2019 at 11.55pm.
Her funeral rites will be held at Presentation Convent, Dharwad tomorrow i.e, 18.11.2019 at 10.00 am.
