Sr Prafulla nee Florene Cardoza hails from St Ignatius church Paladka Mangalore, Dakshina Kannada. She is the beloved daughter of devout parents Late Mr Louis Cardoza and Mrs Nathalia Cardoza who generously offered her to the service of the Lord in the Congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany. She had five brothers and two sisters. In her eagerness to be a religious sister she joined Bethany on 24.06.1969 having completed her matriculation.
After undergoing religious training she made her First Profession on 23.04.1973 and perpetual Profession on 15.05.1980. Sr Prafulla was certainly a jovial sister full of life and energy, friend of all and dedicated religious of Bethany Congregation. She could face any challenges of the time and could get along well with the people irrespective of their caste, colour and creed. She will be fondly remembered for her cheerful presence, exuberance and lively nature in the community and joyful availability for the mission.
The various missions of BethanyCongregation offered asuitable setting for Sr Prafulla to give her loving service to all. As a dynamic and dedicated teacher she has rendered her valuable services at St Joseph’s Convent Bathinda, Bethany Convent Naini, St Mary’s Convent Arsikere, St Joseph’s Convent K.R. Nagar, St Mary’s Convent Dahanu, St Michael’s Convent Mahim, Loyola Convent Gadag and Presentation Convent Dharwad.
She was quite active in Presentation Community teaching in the Presentation PU College and rendering her service to all until January 2021. After that her cardiac problem aggravated and hence investigations and treatment was done at SDM Hospital, Dharwad. Thereafter on the advice of the Doctor she was taken to St. John’s medical college for further investigations and second opinion. On her return, since she could not respond to the medication, she developed many complications in her health which deteriorated day after day. As and when necessary she was admitted into the Lourdes Hospital where Dr Sr Felly SCCG attended on her lovingly and gave her the best treatment every time. During the last investigation it was diagnosed that she was also suffering from epilepsy. She was discharged on 23 April and was with the community till she breathed her last on 26 April, at 6.30 p.m.
Her funeral rites will be held at Presentation Convent on 27April at 3.30p.m.
I express my heartfelt condolences to Sr Sally, the Provincial Superior, Sr Archana the Superior of Presentation Convent and all the sisters of Western Province.
