July 12, 2017 : Bethany began its mission at Samoguri in Arunachal Pradesh in May 2010 at the call of the diocese of Miao. Initially they lived in a thatched bamboo house. They established St Mary’s School of the diocese and kept a few boarders with them. The new community was erected on 16th July 2011 with Sr Aquinas as the first Superior of the Convent. The Psalmist says, ‘The Lord will build a house for us; and he will watch over our city’. Indeed the Lord has built a house for the Bethany Sisters through the magnanimity of Most Rev George Pallipparambil, Bishop of Miao Diocese. It is because of him that we now have a beautiful and spacious house both for our Sisters and for the hostel girls. The new Convent building was inaugurated on 1st July 2017 by Sr Joy, the Provincial Superior of North East Province, and blessed by Most Rev George Pallipparambil, the Bishop, which was followed by the Eucharistic Celebration with 6 priests and Religious of nearby Institutions and neighbours. Bishop in his homily said, ‘let our houses be the place where Christ is always welcomed’ and he gave a clarion call for the Sisters and Fathers to bear witness to the people through their life of love and collaboration. After the Mass there was a short felicitation programme and a delicious meal was served for all. In the evening Sr Shalini Mary was installed new Superior of the house with Sr Felcy Tellis and Sr Rebecca, the members. Sr Therese Lagardo who was the Superior for the past three years is transferred to Kolkata. There are 54 girls in the hostel from KG to Class VIII.
