Pithoragarh, a small town situated at a height of 5500 feet above the sea-level and surrounded by picturesque hills with their captivating scenic beauty was chosen by God to become a home for Bethany Sisters. Most Rev Anthony Fernandes, the Bishop of Bareilly diocese, invited the Bethany Sisters to manage Don Bosco School which was just started by him in 1989. Sr Miriam, the Provincial Superior chose Sr Justinian, Sr Veena D’ Souza, Sr Joselita and Sr Luciana Abraham to pioneer this mission. On 3 July 1993 the convent was blessed and inaugurated by Bishop Antony Fernandes. Encountering the Christians for the first time was a new experience for the people of other religions living there.
The school swiftly gained popularity for quality and value based education and reached up to plus two level enhancing the literacy of this hill area. It has 2000 students on roll. Besides education, sisters are also involved in pastoral ministry. Sr Lina is the present Superior and Principal.
