Sr Mildred nee Catherine D’Souza (78 yrs) of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany, Guwahati Province, passed away on 02.11.2020 at MMC Hospital, Guwahati. She is the memberof Bethany Convent, Guwahati.
She hails from St Dominic Parish, Miyar, Karkal of Udupi Diocese and is the daughter of Late Mr Joseph D’Souza and Late Mrs Joana D’Mello. Her funeral will be at11 am on 03.11.2020 atGuwahati Archdiocesan Uzanbazar Christian Cemetery.
Sr Mildred is noted for her spirit of prayer, faithfulness in duties, cheerfulness, compassion and endurance in suffering. She has rendered commendable service in the field of education as Headmistress and teacher at St Joseph’s Bathinda, Sacred Heart Ludhiana,Punjab, St Theresa’s Karnal, Haryana, St Xavier’s Thanlon, Manipur, Shanthi Rani Berhampur, Orissa, Loyola School Kolkata, St Joseph’s Viswema,Nagaland, and Holy Cross Depacharra and Dharmanagar, Tripura. She served as a Superior at St Xavier’s,Thanlon, Manipur and Holy Cross Convent Dimapur, Nagaland.
In February 2019 she was brought tothe Provincial House in Guwahati for medical treatment and was diagnosed to have cancer of the jaw. She was operated upon at St John’s hospital, Guwahati in March 2019. She recovered fast and was able to attend to all her works. In June 2020 she developed a growth in the upper Jaw and was operated upon once again. Thereafter, she had to take chemotherapy and radiation. Towards the end of the treatment, her condition deteriorated. But she endured her sufferings patiently and cheerfully. On 11th October the 78th birthday of Sr Mildred was celebrated by the Provincial Superior with her team members and community meaningfully. She was very happy and expressed her heartfelt thanks for the services rendered to her, perhaps not knowing that her end was near.
From 25th October, her condition grew worse and she needed hospital care. As part of the procedure COVID test was done and unfortunately she was found to be positive. Accordingly she was admitted to the MMC Hospital, Guwahati. On the following day she was shifted to ICU and was put on ventilator for aday. She showed much improvement and the Sisters continuously prayed for her recovery. But the Master’s call came silently on 02.11.2020 at 1.20 pm and she flew to her eternal abode peacefully.
I extend my sincere condolences to Sr Sandhya, the Provincial Superior and her team, Sr Joy, the former Provincial superior and team as well as the community for the loving care that they bestowed on her especially during her illness.
Eternal rest grantunto her, O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace.
