Sr M Christine BS (89) of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany, Mangalore, passed away on Saturday 16th January 2021. She is the member of Santa Cruz Convent, Kulshekar. She is the daughter of late Mr Marcel D’souza and late Mrs Therese D’souza and hails from St Sebastian Church, Permannur, in the Diocese of Mangalore. She has a brother and five sisters. Her Funeral Mass will be on Sunday, January 17th at 3.00 pm in Holy Cross Church, Cordel, Kulshekar, Mangalore.
Sr Christine was an affectionate person by nature. She loved sisters, very especially as a procurator at Bethany Mother House, Bendoor she used to provide the things needed for the Community sisters who were in large number with much love and concern. She was caring for the sick and the elderly. Hard work is the hallmark of Sr Christine. Every day she used to spend lot of time in the compound nurturing the plant life, cultivating vegetables and maintaining kitchen garden. For 15 years she was at Bethany Home Kirem helping the Directress of the Candidates in maintaining the kitchen and the compound. She was loyal and obedient in imitation of Mary, our Mother. She found joy in doing little things like St Therese to please God.
Sr Christine served as an efficient teacher in St Joseph’s School, Kulshekar, R.C. School, Basrur, St Margaret Mary School Bendoor and Little Flower School, Bajpe. After her retirement she was at St Xavier’s Convent Ajekar, Shanthi Rani Convent Siddakatte, Rosa Mystica Convent Kinnikambla, Madeleine Convent Mulki, Bethany Home and Mother of Mercy Convent, Kirem and at present Santa Cruz Convent, Kulshekar. Wherever she lived she actively engaged herself in home management, compound work, gardening, craft, cooking and stitching.
Sr Christine was suffering from cardiovascular disease. Last year she underwent an angiogram. At 8.30 am today she complained of acute chest pain and the sisters of Santa Cruz Convent accompanied her to Fr Muller’s hospital, Kankanady. Immediately she was shifted to MICU as she was being treated, at 12.15 noon she breathed her last and offered her soul to God.
I extend my sincere condolences to Sr Cicilia Mendonca, the Provincial Superior and her team as well as Sr Ida Janet, the Superior and the community at Santa Cruz Kulshekar for the loving care that they bestowed on her especially during her illness.
Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her; may she rest in peace.
