Sr Josphine BS (88) of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany, Mangalore passed away on Saturday13th March 2021. She is the member of Santa Cruz Convent, Kulshekar. She is the daughter of the late Lawrence DSouzaand lateJuvan DSouza and hails from Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish,Kolalgiri, in the Diocese of Udupi. She has three brothers and three sisters.
Sr Josphineentered Bethany in 1953 and after her profession, served as an efficient teacher in many of our institutions. She was committed and noted for her disciplined religious life. She has served at Maryvale Convent, Kinnigoli, Sacred Heart Convent Kulshekar, Nazareth Convent Bajpe, Rosa Mystica Convent Kinnikambala, Madeleine Convent Mulki and St Xavier’s Convent Ajekar.As a PET teacher , she was known for her love for the children as well as discipline. After her retirement from teaching, she was fully involved in social work for 25 years. She worked at Jeevandhara social Service Trust Kulshekar, and Sahodaya Bethany Seva Kendra, Bendur for 14 years.As a second career she served the humanity by opening new avenues for the girls in the vicinity through job-oriented courses specially tailoring classes. She regularly visited parishes and villages in Dakshina Kannada District ofter bare footed. On her visits, she motivated women for self employment and thus helped them to earn their livelihood.
Sr Josphine was known for her kindness, compassionand lovefor the poor and the marginalized. She displayed commendable hospitality to the guests and entertained every one with her joviality. Faithfulness to prayerand other spiritual expercises were her special qualities. She was respectful towards authorities and had great love and affection towards the sisters in the community. She was creative and was good at craft, specially, hand embroidery, knitting and painting.
Sr Josphine suffered from age related illness for a year. Two months ago she had a fall and was operated up on. Even though the surgery was successful, day by day her health deteriorated. On 13th March at 11.55pm when the sisters were around her, peacefully she surrendered her soul to the Lord. The funeral mass will be held at 3.00 pm on March 14th2021, at Holy Cross Church, Cordel, Kulshekar.
I extend my sincere condolences to Sr CiciliaMendonca, the Provincial Superior and her team as well as Sr Ida Janet, the Superior and the community members of Santa Cruz Convent, Kulshekar for the loving care that they bestowed on her especially during her illness.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace!
