Sr M Micheal BS (82) nee Aleykutty VJ of Bethany Congregation, Southern Province, passed away on 25 June 2024 at 12.15pm at Bethany Provincial House – Chevayur Kozhikode, Kerala. She hails from PalaDiocese of Kottayam District. She is the daughter of late Mr Joseph and Mary Maliekal.
Sr Michael has rendered her services as a teacher and a zealous missionary for about 62 years in our communities at Pallikunnu, West Hill, Kalpetta, Thavam, Pilkkavu, Anappara, Thalamukil, Pathanapuram, Puthenthope, Karakundu, Kamukincode, Moothedam and Chevayur. She was a very caring and vigilant superior, headmistress and pioneering community member wherever she lived and served. She was very respectful towards higher superiors. She was a committed and dedicated teacher and won the hearts of little children and parents alike. After her retirement, she was fully engaged in pastoral ministry in different parishes. Her dealings were always polite and gentle. She had great love for the poor and the sick; she would visit them often.
Sr Michael maintained good health all through her life. Lately in May 2024, she developed intense back pain and diagnosed for intestinal tumour which was at its final stage.Sr Michael silently bore all her acute suffering. The sisters of Provincialate community and the members of the Congregation supported her with their prayers and accompanied her during her last journey while on earth. She received the Sacrament of Anointing from the Parish Priest and was fortified with Holy Communion daily till this morning. The priests who came for the Holy Mass at the Provincial House daily, prayed for Sr Michael.
On 25 June at 12.15 pm while Sr Judy Varghese the Provincial Superior and her councillors, Sr Hermina the Superior and a few community sisters were praying at her bed side, Sr Michael answered the call of her Beloved and entered her eternal home very peacefully.
Her funeral rites will be officiated by Most Rev Dr Bishop Varghese Chakkalakal Bishop of Calicut Diocese on 26 June at 3.00pm at Bethany Provincial House Convent Chapel. Thereafter mortal remains will be entombed at West Hill Cemetery.
