 Convent building

Madikeri is the district headquarters of Kodagu. The Sisters of Northern Province of the Congregation were in search of a base in south-western India for the promotion of vocations to the missionary areas of North India.  Sr Agnella, the Superior General, approached Fr Gregorious Madapilly and Mgr Joseph Thelly, the Administrator of the diocese of Mysore. They cordially welcomed Bethany to Coorg deanery.  On 24th May 1995 Sr Salerine, Sr Mary Pinto, Sr Shirley and Lina along with Sr Agnella, the Superior General, Sr Miriam, the Provincial Superior of Northern Province and Mother Macrina landed in Madikeri to take up the ministry of education.  A building for the convent  was built  and Fr Gregorious, the parish priest of St Michael’s Church blessed the house.
 
Sr Salerine was appointed as Superior and Headmistress of St Michael’s English Primary School. Sisters assisted her in the school. They also took up pastoral activities in the parish church. Most Rev. Joseph Roy Bishop of Mysuru blessed the new convent building on 23rd January 1998.   Fr Arogyasamy requested the Superior General to take up the Kannada Medium School as well. Sr Arun Cutinha was appointed as Headmistress of the Kannada Medium School. In 2006 this convent was transferred to Bangalore Province. Sr Smitha was appointed Superior and Headmistress of the English Medium School. In 2007 the “Come and See” programme was started in Madikeri. Sr Lorna was the Directress. At present Sr Praveen BS is the Superior and Sr Ida, Sr Gliseria, and Sr Carmen are the members of the community.
