Sr M Juliana BS (95) nee Mariam A.S. of Congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany, Mangalore, Southern Province, passed away on 23 September 2024 at 9.45 am at Ann’s Convent Pathanapuram, Kerala. She hails from Palai Diocese of Kottayam District, Kerala. She is the daughter of late Mr Sebastian Aranjaniland Mrs Annamma Aranjanil.
Sr Juliana has rendered her services as a local superior of various Communities, boarding mistress and a zealous missionary for about 67 years in the communities at Bethany Mother House Mangalore, Lourdes Convent Pallikunnu, St Xavier’s Convent Pazhayngadi, Eudes Convent West Hill, St Joseph Convent Kalpetta, Bethany Convent Thalamukil, Bethany Convent Thavam and St Ann’s Convent Pathanapuram. She was a very caring and loving superior, to the community member wherever she lived and served. She was very respectful towards superiors, was a committed and dedicated missionary and won the hearts of everyone in the parishes and places wherever she was. She was fully engaged in pastoral ministry in different parishes, visiting families and engaging in direct evangelization in the remote villages of South Kerala. Her dealings were always polite and gentle. She had great and unique intellectual capacity and was an avid reader. Sr Juliana had great love for the poor and the sick. Sr Juliana will be always remembered as a very affectionate, loving, kind hearted, jovial and loyal Bethany Sister.
For the last 26 years, she spent her life at St. Ann’s Convent Pathanapuram, serving the Lord through the poor and needy in the remote areas of Pathanapuram Parish in Punalur Diocese. For the last few years, she was largely confined to the convent, spending long hours before the Blessed Sacrament. Prayer was her source of strength; she found joy in gazing at the Lord in the tabernacle with profound love and gratitude.
During the past few years, the sisters of St. Ann’s Convent cared for her with much love and compassion, attending to her every need. However, three months ago, Sr. Juliana began to experience discomfort and underwent treatment. She received the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick and was fortified by daily Holy Communion.
Sr Juliana who had the privilege to see and live with the Founder exhibited great admiration and love to the Founder and used to pray for the congregation through his intercession. It was providential that on the day of our Founder, the 23 September 2024 she breathed her last peacefully at 9.45 am while the community sisters were praying at her bed side.
Her funeral rites will be held tomorrow the 24 September 2024 at 11.00am, at St Ann’s Forane Church, Pathanapuram.
